Abstract
Essential thrombocythemia is a rare myeloproliferative disorder characterized by
proliferation of hematapoietic tissue predominantly involving megakaryocytes, resulting in
marked thrombocytosis and thromboembolic or hemorrhagic complications. The disorder
has some clinical and laboratory features that resemble those seen in the clonal
multipotent stem cell disorders. The clinical course of this disorder is highly variable.
We experienced three women presented with the clinical picture of
essential
thrombocythemia. The mean platelet count was 1,600,000/¥ìL. Bone marrow biopsy
showed hypercellular marrow with megakaryocytic hyperplasia. We present the cases
with laboratory findings, clinical course and brief review of literature.
